Will It Fit? Rough Opening
Frame to these dimensions. The Ignite Ultra is a built-in unit, so the opening has to be right before the unit arrives:
| Rough opening width |
100 3/4" (256 cm) |
| Rough opening height |
28" (71.1 cm) |
| Rough opening depth |
15" (38.1 cm) |
| Appliance dimensions, without trim (W x H x D) |
100 5/8" x 27 1/2" x 14 1/2" |
| Viewing area (W x H x side glass depth) |
100" x 17" x 7 11/16" |
| Recommended maximum mounting height from the floor |
40" (102 cm) |
The 7-11/16" figure is the depth of the side glass, which is what you see in a corner or bay installation.
Electrical Requirements
Worth settling with your electrician before the wall is closed up — the Ignite Ultra runs at either voltage, but only the 120 V option can be corded.
| Voltage |
120 V (3-wire) or 240 V (4-wire) |
| Power output — 120 V |
1,500 W (5,118 BTU/h) |
| Power output — 240 V |
2,500 W (8,530 BTU/h) |
| Current draw |
12.5 A at 120 V / 10.4 A at 240 V |
| Circuit |
Dedicated, properly fused 15 A circuit recommended, rated for the voltage used |
| Connection — 120 V |
Hardwired or power cord |
| Connection — 240 V |
Hardwired only |
| Supplemental heating area |
Up to 1,000 sq ft |
Note the 12.5 A draw at 120 V against a 15 A circuit — this needs its own dedicated circuit, not a shared one.
Clearances
| Minimum clearance above the fireplace to the ceiling |
24" (61 cm) |
| Combustible materials in front (furniture, bedding, curtains, papers) |
3 ft (0.9 m) minimum |
| Surface temperature 10" above the unit, in normal heat mode |
Does not exceed 40 °C (104 °F) |
That last figure is the one people ask about when planning a TV above the fireplace. Check your TV manufacturer's own ambient temperature limit as well.
